Our Story

How a Tuesday night, a store-bought rotisserie chicken, and duct tape led to a business

Hi! I'm Sarah! I am a full-time working mom of 4 married to a full-time soldier in the Minnesota Army National Guard. I started Kinder Cutlery because I know how difficult it can be to find time for family meals, especially when our little ones need help learning how to eat independently.

One busy Tuesday evening, I found myself alone at the kitchen counter cutting up store-bought rotisserie chicken into bite-sized pieces for each of my kids' plates. I thought that my then 9 and 7 year olds should be able to cut their own food. But when we tried to teach them, it was a frustrating experience for all of us. Our utensils were not made for little hands, there was no time to practice this skill, and existing products weren't sufficiently intuitive.

So with some duct tape from the junk drawer and medical gauze from our first-aid kit, I invented a new kind of fork and knife. Not only did my eldest two learn quickly and easily on those contraptions, my then 4 year old did, too! And most surprising of all was the quality time we gained together at the kitchen table—just because our kids could cut their own food.

We've since refined those original designs and are excited to share them with you. Thanks for being part of our journey—we’d love to help you make the most of your mealtimes.
