3 Homemade Meal Ideas, Endless Possibilities
We get it—between work, activities, and everything else life throws at you, finding meaningful family time can feel impossible some weeks. But mealtime doesn’t have to be one more stressor. With a little planning, dinner can become a simple way to slow down and reconnect.
Here are a few of our favorite quick, low-stress dinner ideas that can be customized in countless ways so that everyone is excited to come back to the table.
1. Sheet Pan Dinners
As easy (and foolproof) as homemade gets. Grab a rimmed baking sheet, drizzle your ingredients with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and pop it in the oven. That’s it!
You can keep it simple or mix it up:
- Chicken + baby carrots (no peeling required!)
- Flank steak + peppers + onions (fajita night!)
- Sausage + baby potatoes (hearty and comforting)
- Chickpeas + cauliflower + sweet potatoes (a vegetarian win)
- Or even sheet pan gnocchi (yes, it’s a thing!)
Bake until your veggies are tender and proteins are cooked through, and dinner practically serves itself.
2. Breakfast for Dinner
Always a crowd-pleaser and a guaranteed weeknight win. Omelets are a quick go-to, and the kids will love customizing with their own ingredients, like cheese, ham, peppers, or onions. You can also roast bacon or sausage in the oven while you cook—less cleanup, more together time.
(And if pancakes or waffles happen to make an appearance, we support that too!)
3. Dump Dinners
Bring out the slow cooker and let it do the work for you. Just toss in your protein, sauce, and seasonings—and let it simmer into something tender and delicious. Pulled pork is a favorite in our house, but chicken or beef work great too. It’s the kind of meal that’s waiting for you, not the other way around. Check out this great collection of recipes!
Bonus: The Store-Bought Rotisserie Chicken
We’d be remiss not to mention the real MVP of busy weeknights. This bird actually helped inspire the Kinder Cutlery journey!
Many co-ops and natural food stores carry versions made with clean, simple ingredients. Pair it with fresh veggies, fruit, or a few dinner rolls, and you’ve got a balanced meal in minutes. (Pro tip: save the bones for homemade broth!).
No matter what’s on the menu, remember—family mealtime doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. What are your go-to, quick-and-tasty, busy-weeknight meals? Share them in the comments below—we’d love to hear from you!
